MolEcolBio featuring BEAST 2 workshop

Professor Alexei Drummond, Dr Remco Bouckaert and Dr Tim Vaughan presented a 1-day MolEcolBio featuring BEAST 2 workshop on Friday 2 December in conjunction with the New Zealand Molecular Ecology (MolEcol) Meeting. The workshop was very well received by the 17 mainly postgraduate student participants and resulted in a lot of follow-up discussions on the material over the weekend at the MolEcol Meeting. MolEcol organiser Dr Shane Lavery said that participants commented on the clarity of Alexei’s presentation, which helped people pull some difficult concepts together. In addition, they appreciated Remco’s broad overview of the types of analyses that can be attacked using Beast, as many were not aware of this breadth. A few of the participants were particularly appreciative of Tim’s presentation, which helped structure and clarify the different models of phylogeographic analysis, something that has previously been somewhat confusing. Overall, everyone commented on how helpful it was to hear all the concepts being explained in person, compared to written material.

The Centre for Computational Evolution runs a range of workshops on phylogenetics and phylodynamics analyses using BEAST 2 during the year for all levels of researchers. Contact us if you would like to be put on the mailing list, and check out the events page for upcoming workshops.
